RAL Colors

ChromaSpot uses an unofficial RAL color library measured with an X-Rite i1Pro3 spectrophotometer from official samples. We decided to eliminate most of the metalized and fluorescent samples on the list, as I1Pro 3 was not designed to measure them. Numeric data do not correspond to visual perception, and metalized samples require either multi-angle or spherical instruments. We are working on a dedicated metalized samples library. Visual appearance is significant; therefore, we should not mix regular matt samples with special effects.
Data are the same under all measurement conditions, and no fluorescence phenomena exist. The closest Chromaspot color sample was assigned to RAL color in the next step.|

Due to the homogeneity rules, not all RAL samples are addressed with a unique ChromaSpot code.

The explanation is simple: if the ChromaSpot sample is halfway through two RAL colors relatively close to one another, there is no unique transformation.

ChromaSpot has more than 4000 samples, and it makes no practical sense to add twice more just to reduce deviation for virtually any color system transformation.

RAL Sample names adoption

We decided to adopt RAL names initially and vote on this decision later. It seems to be practical to use the same name for very close samples in both systems.
